This book is a collection of works by the German artist Edward Beyer, who traveled throughout the United States in the 1850s. Beyer left behind a trail of paintings, drawings, and etchings. His illustrations are a beautiful and remarkable testament to the American landscape.
Edward Beyer was born in 1820. His art reflects his training in the precise style and techniques associated with the Dusseldorf Academy. Beyer came to America in 1848 and stayed about ten years. He and his wife traversed both the cities and the frontier, recording many now famous places like Niagara Falls along the way. A map
